Beautiful Whale is my first photography book, published by Abrams in April 2013.
This 124-page, 12 × 15 inch coffee table book features a foreword by Dr. Sylvia Earle. It includes numerous life-size (1:1 scale) photographs of whale eyes, as well as full-body photo mosaics reproduced at 1:6 scale that unfold across multiple gatefolds up to five feet wide. For twenty five years I’ve been drawn to the way sunlight interacts with water and living beings. My second book, sun, water, being, steps away from whales and focuses instead on light itself — how it moves, reflects, and transforms everything it touches. This book is now sold out. It was a profound honor to exhibit alongside one of my heroes, Wayne Levin — a true pioneer in underwater photography. My life-size whale portraits were featured with his work in this major two-person exhibition at the Datz Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea, on view for a full year.
